Counseling Information
If you or any member of your family are in need of counseling services outside of the school environment, a list has been put together of local and regional resources that are available to you. Some are more focused like The Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas, which focuses on loss; Connections focuses on family and Child Guidance Services focuses on children, but there are many more resources listed that are more general. Whatever your need may be, we hope that this list of resources will be of help.
Mission Statement
The Junior High Counseling Department has a comprehensive, developmental guidance and counseling program. This is the program mandated by the State of Texas and recommended by ASCA.
Under the comprehensive, developmental guidance and counseling program “the counselor’s primary focus is to facilitate instruction by removing impediments to student learning. It is developmental by design and includes sequential activities organized and implemented by certified school counselors with the support of teachers, administrators, students, and parents” (Bauer, 2007).
The comprehensive, developmental guidance and counseling program has four components: guidance, responsive services, individual planning, and system support.
A guidance curriculum to help students develop their full educational potential.
A responsive services component to intervene on behalf of any student whose immediate personal concerns or problems put the student’s continued educational, career, personal, or social development at risk.
An individual planning system to guide a student as the student plans, monitors, and manages the student’s own educational, career, personal, and social development.
System support to support the efforts of teachers, staff, parents, and other members of the community in promoting the educational, career, personal, and social development of students.
